An Unwanted Hiatus

Hey lovelies!
First off, I do apologize for the month (I can't believe it's been that long) long hiatus. School, work, and stress have been keeping me busy and unable to properly blog. When I finally had time to sit down and make awesome blog posts, my laptop decided to die on me leaving me more stressed and away from my one true love, the Internet (it's just not the same on a phone!). I'm hoping I can find a replacement laptop this weekend so I can fill my blog up with way overdue posts, but until then the hiatus continues. :( Again, I'm so sorry but I will be back!

P.S. If you have any suggestions on what I should feature more of on my blog or post ideas, do let me know!

My (Growing) Lip Color Collection (part 2)

Finally, a part 2! I decided to focus this post on my (technically) non-lipstick colors, which I tend to wear the most often especially on school days or days I don't feel like putting a full face of make up on.

From left to right: Honey, Shanghai, Romantic

The two outer colors are by Revlon's (of course) Just Bitten Kissable line. I absolutely love these because the color is pigmented, build-able, and it's not as heavy as lipstick. It looks exactly like the packaging which great for drugstore make up (there's no guessing game!). They are lip balm stains, meaning that they apply like a lip balm, but after a while the balm wears off and you're left with color on the lips. The color pay off is great and last for a fairly long time. I can just pop it on and walk out the door when I'm running to class, or layer it on top of  lip liner or lipstick (which looks awesome).

The middle color is by Buxom and is part of their Big & Healthy line. I got this color as a part of a Black Friday package at Sephora and wasn't able to test it out. Once I did though, I was pleasantly surprised. The consistency is super smooth and matte and the lipstick has a menthol flavor (I don't really know what to call it) that leaves your lips tingling which I love. The color is also something I've never worn before, a bright raspberry I would call it. (hint: I like to apply Romantic over Shanghai to get a red-raspberry color that looks super cute!)

A Blog Award!

1) What is your favourite flower?

Hmm, I would have to say tulips. They remind me so much of springtime and are so fun!

2) Who is your favourite designer?

Ok, this is a tough one since I have a bajillion favorite designers, but I'll go with Alexander McQueen since I find that every season, the clothing is flawless and so outspoken. I love it.

3) Who was your favourite teacher at school?

My favorite teacher would have to be my high school AP Government teacher. He was so bizarre and sarcastic but incredibly smart. I had him previously for Honors US History and specifically took AP Gov to have him as a teacher again.

4) Do you have any inspirational quotes that you love?

5) If you could be granted 3 wishes, what would you wish for?

1. To be able to write beautifully

Can they be Louboutin's?

(I guess these black, oxford lace ups that I have. They're super comfortable and have lasted me for a couple of years already.)

8) Describe your perfect day.

Waking up to sunshine, putting on my favorite dress, going out to brunch/lunch with a friend or by myself and being able to relax and explore the city with out anything (especially homework) weighing me down.

9) How long do you think you'll continue to blog?

I hope for a very long time!

10) Recommend a musician/band that I should listen to.

I'm currently digging Kimbra a lot. Her voice is so magnetic and her style is cute as well!

11) What is your favourite thing about yourself?

superficially: I really like my eyes

personality wise: I like that I'm really one to empathize with people. I know how it feels to be ignored and lonely so I try to really listen and hear people out.

Snippets of My 20th Birthday

The weeks of my life are becoming busier and busier, with less time to just sit down and breathe. In no time, I realized that it was my birthday week (I turned 20 on February 19th) and I scurried to find a way to celebrate it. I decided to go out to dinner with some friends but ended up not taking as many pictures as I hoped on my camera. I did manage to find some on my phone (of food of course), so enjoy!

My birthday started off with a cupcake delivery from my mom from one of my favorite bakeries. I swear, the best way to my heart/make me happy is food. Especially desserts.

The night of my birthday, my friends and I went to dinner at an Italian restaurant. I had little time to get ready because of a full day of class, so I tried to put myself together as much as I could.

The food at the restaurant was AMAZING. Everything was made fresh including the pasta and was completely worth the wait. I couldn't resist finishing the whole plate.

After dinner, a waiter with a lovely voice came out with Tiramisu and a lit birthday candle and sang an Italian rendition of 'Happy Birthday' (he also kissed me on both cheeks which was really sweet :))

I then came home to another delivery of sweets (thanks Mom!) which were equally as delicious as the cupcakes.

Overall, entering my 20s (still not adjusted to that fact) was delicious! I hope being 20 treats me well. :)

A 60s Valentine's Day

Oh, Valentine's Day... I have a love/hate relationship with the holiday. The vast amount of red roses and baby breath (I have a strong hatred towards this flower combination) makes me want to vomit and I'd rather not be reminded of not having a Valentine since the 7th grade. Though I will admit, the romance is cute and there's chocolate involved which is always awesome.


This year, along with a couple of previous years, I decided to dress to fit the theme. I had a 1960s dress that I had yet to wear since I bought it and Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect day to debut it!

The dress was purchased from Etsy and I swear, it feels like it's brand new. Accordingly, I paired it with cute heart tights that I got from Target.

To go along with the 1960s dress, I styled my hair in a half-up bouffant (I swear it looked bigger in person) and paired it with a dramatic cat eye.

Curls and Faux Fur

Happy Monday everyone! Today I decided to set my hair in an actual pattern *le gasp* after weeks of just rolling my hair in a sporadic mess. The set I used was from Lauren Rennells' Vintage Hairstyling. Even though I followed the set exactly, my hair still turned out slightly different than what the final product looked like, as my hair never fully cooperates. Nonetheless, it still looked nice!

Instead of a wet set like the book instructed, I did a dry set as that works best for my hair. I rolled the front section with 4 small rollers and used medium/extra for the rest of my hair, making sure to leave the crown of my head flat. 

The book also used pillow rollers but since I didn't have any, I continued with the sponge rollers and split the rest of my hair into 3 rows.

After sleeping in the set, this is what my hair looked after I removed the rollers and before I brushed the curls 

out.

After tons of brushing, hair manipulation, and pomade, this was the result:

I adore the bangs because they're a little Diana Dors-esque (I worship her and her hair)

Since, I used sponge rollers instead of pillow ones, the curls weren't as loose as they were supposed to be; but they lasted through the entire day which was awesome!

And there you have it! A quick tutorial (?) to get you through the long week (now back to tackling this homework...sigh)

My (Growing) Lip Color Collection (part 1)

Second to my love of vintage fashion comes my love of makeup. The two go hand in hand helping give off the illusion of the era or style one wants to portray. Now, even though I watch makeup tutorials on Youtube for hours on end and have an endless wish list of makeup, I'm lacking in the lip color department (boo). But alas, I have four essential colors that I wear on a day to day basis that once combined (yes, I sometimes mix lip colors together) can give me a dozen of options!

Since my lip collection is sooo large, I decided to split this post into three parts: lipstick, lip liner, and lip stain. Today we'll look at my lipstick!

I own four main colors in my collection: a red tone, a pink/mauve color, and a dark wine tone.

As you can see, I favor MAC for my choice of lip color. I'm in love with their matte shades (awesome for a complete vintage look) and can try on colors before buying them as opposed to a drugstore where the makeup is usually wrapped. The exception to this rule is Revlon which is the best drugstore line for pretty much everything.

I wear each color depending on my mood or occasion. I throw on some red if I'm in a super vintage mood, pink/mauve when I'm feeling 60s inspired, and dark wine when I'm going out and want a femme fatale sort of look. Each of the colors were bought on a whim and somehow seemed to look lovely on me (I think I like Really Red better than Ruby Woo and Russian Red shhhh!).

As you can see from the swatches, no shine in sight! Be careful though, as the matte-r the color, the more prone lips are to drying out (exfoliating and moisturizing before and after wear is your best friend).
